| Program Information: | |
| If you have been driving on the County roads for very long you have probably, at one time or another, found yourself waiting patiently in line behind a flagger of a "Chip Seal" crew. You might be asking yourself "What are they doing up ahead that is so important that it has to hold me up?" Well the answer is that they are performing a very important, if not vital task, that will keep our County Road system in place for years to come! What actually is occurring is a Bituminous Surface Treatment which is part of our County Road Preservation program. This is commonly referred to as a "BST" or "Chip Seal. This involves placing a hot liquid asphalt down on the road first and then immediately placing aggregate over it. The purpose of this Chip Seal is to preserve the pavement life span and enhance traction characteristics of the existing roadway surface. How do we choose which roads receive this treatment you might ask. In summary it is decided through existing conditions of the pavement surface, results of pavement condition surveys through a pavement management system, and engineering judgment. Generally all roads are on a eight year cycle. | |
| We are very proud of our crews and the top notch work they that they do! | |
