| There are four transfer station sites set up to serve residents and businesses which are a distance from the Stevens County Landfill which is located near Kettle Falls. On an as needed basis the full bins are transported from the transfer stations to the landfill for disposal. When a full bin is moved out to be transported, an empty one is put in its place. |
| The transfer stations were operated by Stevens County from their opening dates until December 31, 1988, when the county contracted the operation of the stations and the hauling of the solid waste to the landfill. |
