Stevens County Advisory Boards

3.  Board of Equalization - BOE

Role of the Committee:  Responsible for hearing appeals of assessed value on real and personal property in Stevens County.
Meeting times:  Stevens County BOE normally convenes in the Spring, meeting intermittently for a few months. Hearings are usually conducted at the Stevens County Courthouse.
 
4.  CASA  Advisory Board

Role of the Committee:  The purpose of the Advisory Board is to enhance the existing services to abused and neglected children assigned to CASA.

Meetings:  The advisory Board meets twice a year on the fourth Monday of January and June.

Role of the Committee: Management of a merit system of employment for county deputy sheriffs and other employees for the office of county sheriff as per RCW 41.14

7.  Developmental Disabilities Board

Role of the Committee: To advise and make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners relating to community developmental disabilities services.  The board also provides community leadership on improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of community developmental disabilities programs.
Meeting times:  Quarterly (January, April, July & October), on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  The meetings are at 12 noon at Northeast Washington Alliance Counseling Services:  165 E. Hawthorne, Colville, in the East Conference Room.
 
8.  Kettle River Advisory Board - KRAB

Role of the Committee:  Members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Ferry and Stevens Counties to serve as an advisory board for implementation of the policy plan for the Kettle River and its resources.
Meeting times:  Meets the 3rd Wednesday at 4 pm Mar-Nov at the Curlew Presbyterian Church – except 1 or 2 meetings held in Barstow (please contact the Ferry Co. Commissioners' Office for all meeting dates and location)
 
9.  Little Pend Oreille Lakes Management District Citizens' Steering Committee (LPOLMCSC)

Role of the Committee:  Members are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to assist the county in the management and control of Eurasion milfoil in the Little Pend Oreille Lakes

10.  Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

Number of Members:  5 (two representatives of businesses required to collect the tax, two representatives who are involved in tourism, tourism-related facilities, or tourism related operation of facilities and one member of the Board of County Commissioners.)
Role of the Committee:  Serves as an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners of Stevens County on the use of the logging tax, or Hotel/Motel Tax funds to promote tourism in Stevens County.

13.  Northeast Washington Fair Board

 Role of the Committee:  Aims/purpose to promote awareness and education in agriculture.  Provide opportunity for the general public to be exposed to the agricultural industry with hands on experience.

14.  Assessor's Open Space Advisory Committee

Role of the Committee:  Serves in an advisory capacity to the Stevens County Assessor in implementing guidelines for the assessment of open space, farms and agricultural lands.

16.  Public Lands Advisory Committee - PLAC

Role of the Committee:  Serves as an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners of Stevens County on issues relating to public lands in Stevens County and other matters.

17.  Road & Bridge Advisory Committee

Role of the Committee:  Serves to provide input and share information with the BOCC and the County Engineer relating to the Stevens County roadway system and to encourage public input in the development of the road construction & maintenance programs; to assist and provide input to the establishment of a priority programming system for new construction & the priorities associated with routine maintenance
Meeting times:  This committee is on inactive status at this time.  It will be reviewed again mid-year.
 
18.  Solid Waste Advisory Committee

Role of the Committee: Advise Commissioners on all areas of solid waste program, ie., recycling, recovery or solid waste resources, etc.

19.  Stevens County Alcoholism & Other Drug Addiction Advisory Board

Role of the Committee:  To determine the needs and priorities of county citizens related to the prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare of persons suffering from alcoholism and other drum addiction.
Meeting times:  2nd Tuesday of every-other month (Jan., March, May, July, Sept., Nov.) at 7 a.m. at the Stevens County Courthouse, Commissioner's Hearing Room
 
20.  Stevens County Dog Control Advisory Committee

Role of the Committee:  Assist the BOCC in matters related to dog control.  The committee seeks to explore and discuss the draft Title 20 DOG CONTROL ordinance and propose solutions.  It also seeks to gain public support on dog control measures.

Role of the Committee:  Provides public support & advice to the BOCC on issues regarding problem wildlife and sustainable fish populations.  It seeks to gain public support on the issues of common sense wildlife management that can have social and economic impact on some of our natural resource based industries as well as the safety of our livestock, domestic animals, human populations and the protection of private property.
Meeting times:  6:30 p.m. 4th Tuesday of each month in Room #215 of the Stevens County Courthouse 

The Stevens County Fish & Wildlife Advisory Committee normally meets the 4th Tuesday of each month in Room #215 of the Stevens County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.

22.  Stevens County Rural Library District Board     Open Position

23.  Stevens County Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee   Open Positions

Role of the Committee:  The purpose of the committee is to develop a plan to improve the accessibility of elections for voters with disabilities. The committee must include members of diverse disabilities.

24.  Water Conservancy Board   Open Position

Number of Members:  5 member board with 2 alternate positions.  All board commissioners must receive training from Ecology before participating in any decision on a water-right transfer application.
Role of the Committee:  Created by the Legislature in 1997 to enable the processing of water-right transfer and change applications at the local level. All water conservancy board decisions are ultimately reviewed and affirmed, reversed, or modified by the Department of Ecology. Minumum Training Requirement:  32 hrs initial training and 8 hrs per year continuing education

26.  WRIA 59 Water Resource Management Board (WRIA 59 Board)

Number of Members:  The current number of members is approximately 20.  The members are made up of local citizen volunteers, businesses, agriculture, and local, state, and federal government representatives and tribal representatives.
Role of the Committee:  The WRIA 59 Board was initially formed in 1999, under the RCW 90.82 Watershed Planning Act, to research and develop a WRIA 59 Watershed Plan and WRIA 59 Detailed Implementation Plan.  Both plans have been adopted by the Stevens County Commissioners, and the WRIA 59 Board continue to work forward on implementation of the water resource actions outlined in the plans.
Meeting times:  WRIA 59 Board meetings are held quarterly, on the first Thursday of the second month in each quarter, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the City of Chewelah Chambers Room.  Special meetings are published in advance in the county paper of record.
